The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel announced it has adopted changes to women’s basketball games, including a switch to four 10-minute quarters (June 8).

The new rules, which were also supported by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Board of Directors, are expected to help the pace of the game.

With the switch from two halves to four quarters, the NCAA has also approved a change in the foul system. One-and-ones have been eliminated, so teams will now shoot two free throws on the fifth team foul of each quarter. Each team’s fouls will move back to zero to begin each quarter, unless a team reaches the bonus in the fourth quarter and the game goes to overtime.

Teams will also be able to advance the ball to the frontcourt on a timeout in the final minute of the fourth quarter or overtime.
